It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the passing of Mick Egan. Mick has given a lifetime of unwavering dedication to the community of Doonbeg and West Clare. In a sporting context we owe him so much, generations of athletes and footballers have experienced his expertise, resolute encouragement and endless passion for football and athletics. He has been a stalwart for St John's Athletic Club for over 25 years, always first to the football field and always the one to 'turn out the lights'. He always inspired the young athletes to reach for the stars in whatever discipline the gravitated towards. He embraced diversity and often had some homemade equipment at hand for anyone wishing to try some new track and field event.

Mick served as a member of our executive for many years and secretary to the minor club where he often single handedly ran training sessions, organised buses and travelled to games. The thousands of man hours given to the betterment of aspiring young footballers is a testament to the type of man he was.

We wish to offer our sincerest condolences to the Egan family at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Maura, sons Kevin and Brian, his brothers and sisters, extended family and many many friends.

The funeral mass will take place this Sunday 14th at 1.00pm and can be watched on the Doonbeg Parish Webcam www.doonbegparish.com

Condolences can be left in the condolence section on rip.ie.
