Each Month we plan to turn the spotlight on some of our senior players. Here they answer questions around their sporting lives. This month it's the turn of Senior Player Brian Dillon
Thanks to Brian for giving up his time for this questionnaire.
Name: Brian Dillon
Job: Teacher
Sports played: Gaelic Football
What position do you play in the most: I have been fortunate enough to have played in quite a few positions throughout the field. Currently I’m playing most of my football in defence, either full back or center back.
How many times a week do you train: I train three times a week with my team mates and I try and get in one or two extra sessions myself (core/stretching, jog, free taking)
Best memory of sporting career so far: Winning my first championship in my first year was special as I got the opportunity to play with some of Doonbeg’s greatest players Francis McInerney and Gerry Killeen.
What is your favourite skill in GAA: Kick passing & tackling
If there was one rule you could change what would it be: players should be allowed to pick the ball from the ground as it would make for a faster game.
Best sporting event you have attended so far: Dublin v Kerry in the All Ireland semi-final 2013.
Sporting goals for this year: Win championship
What is your sporting dream: To represent Doonbeg seniors with pride and to be as competitive as possible while wearing the black and white.
What advice would you give to a younger person playing football?
In order to succeed as a senior player, at club level or inter-country, it is important to understand the game as a whole not just the position you play in. Every player has a responsibility to carry out their role so other team members can compete in theirs. For the defence to be competitive the mid-field and forwards must work extremely hard. Likewise, for the forwards to play well the mid-field and defence must turn over balls and make support runs.
